Bias Tape/Bone Channel Makers
These are super handy little tools for creating your own bias binding strips, they're also PERFECT for making external bone channeling and handle coutil well.
The bias maker width (6, 9, 12, 18, 25mm) indicates the width of the finished binding strip, fabric strips should be cut almost twice as wide (we have included a reference for the widths that we find optimal for coutil boning channels on the packaging).
For bias binding, cut fabric strips on the bias, feed through the binding maker and press as you pull it through.
For bone channeling, cut fabric strips on the grain to avoid stretching when the bone is inserted.
6mm width - ideal for super tiny bound edging, or for creating decorative applique strips
9mm width - ideal for 5mm boning
12mm width - ideal for 7mm boning
18mm width - ideal for double 5mm boning
25mm width - ideal for double 7mm boning
Thicker fabrics may need to be cut in slightly narrower strips, thin fabrics may need to be backed with a fusible interfacing to give them a bit more body. Make a test strip before cutting all of your binding/boning channels!
