Course Details
Fast track your learning and level up your corset making skills with this beginner's corsetry course. Create your own genuine underbust corset from scratch, and take away a finished garment and a tailored pattern at the end. This is a small class (limited to six places) to maximize one-on-one time, and covers a total of 23 hours class time. Course cost includes the pattern and all materials required to make an underbust corset. By the end of this course, you will have the knowledge and confidence to make a well fitted, single layer underbust corset with steel boning, a waist tape and a front busk. Course outline: - How to measure for a corset - Making and fitting a toile (mock up) - Making alterations to your toile and pattern - Accurate marking and cutting - Busk and waist tape insertion - Internal boning channels - Cutting and finishing boning - Binding the top and bottom edges of the corset - Setting two-part eyelets - Lacing your corset Extras: - Tools/materials lists and measurement sheets for future reference - A year-long 5% discount on any purchases made at NZ Corsetry - Access to a private Facebook group for ongoing support - 10% off any subsequent NZ Corsetry courses (whether in person or online) - Booklet with a full run-down of the class content for you to keep handy for future projects! - Depending on your sewing speed, there may be homework in the weeks between classes - Class pattern will fit a natural waist of 60-106cm. Skill level prerequisite: Basic sewing skills are required, and you will need to be comfortable using a sewing machine. Experience with patterns is helpful, but not necessary. Familiarity with general sewing techniques and garment construction will definitely work to your advantage, but you do not need to have made a corset before. What to bring: - Your own sewing machine (if possible) – it’s easier to learn new techniques on a machine that you are comfortable with. Machines available at the Thread Room if required. - Please feel free to bring any general sewing tools that you prefer to work with (scissors, thimbles, pins, needles etc). This is not mandatory however, there are plenty of class supplies to use. - Lunch - refreshments provided (tea, coffee, snacks), but you will need to bring your own lunch. There is a kitchen with a fridge and microwave available for use. - A well fitted singlet (or similar) for taking measurements and fitting your toile.
